About us
Local people in south Bristol have campaigned for
a local hospital for over 50 years. Healthcare is changing and
locally we are also changing to ensure that the services we provide
are delivered in modern NHS facilities, closer to home, wherever
possible.
The new £45 million community hospital opened on
30 March 2012, and provides people in South Bristol with
diagnostic tests and therapy services closer to their homes. It
also houses Bristol's first urgent care centre for minor illnesses
and injuries, day surgery and a rehabilitation service where people
are able to stay as inpatients. The services are provided in a
purpose built, comprehensively equipped unit with full access to
all facilities and services in the hospital, including
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dieticians, speech and
language therapy, X-rays and scans and a brand new community dental
service, offering free NHS treatment for local people, provided by
the University of Bristol Dental Hospital.
South Bristol Community Hospital has taken on many of the
services provided by the old Bristol General Hospital, which closed
on 4 April 2012. University Hospitals Bristol is providing a
number of services at South Bristol, listed below:
- Inpatient rehabilitation
- Day hospital services
- Outpatients
- Day surgery
- Diagnostics
- Community dental treatment
- Dental teaching
- Hospital management
- Homeopathic medicine
