About us

The University Hospitals Bristol
Patient Information Service produces and provides information for
patients, potential patients, carers, staff and the public about
clinical treatments, conditions and our services.
We are committed to providing
information in a range of formats to meet individual
needs, for example, leaflets, audio files, Braille
and written translation. For general enquiries please send an
email to the following address: patient_leaflets@uhbristol.nhs.uk
Patient information leaflets
You can access our library of over 1,000 patient information
leaflets about clinical treatments, conditions and our services at
the following web address: foi.avon.nhs.uk
When you open this link, please type a
word or two related to your search topic into the search
engine box situated at the top right hand corner of the
window/screen. To help refine your search criteria, click on "Power
Search" and within the form check/tick: 'Regular Publications &
Information for the Public' as well as choosing 'UH Bristol' in the
'Produced by' drop-down menu.
Please feel free to print off any
leaflets you find that you think may be of use to you in the
future. Please note that we are currently in the process
of changing the print format to make this facility more
user-friendly.
928 - 342 telephone prefix: Please note:
Any telephone numbers displayed within the
leaflets containing '928' have now changed to
'342'. So for example: 0117 928
0000 will now be 0117
342 0000. We apologise for any
inconvenience this may cause.
Audio leaflets
Some of our most frequently used
patient information leaflets are now available as digital
audio downloads. This may be of help to patients who have literacy
difficulties, as well as the visually impaired.
If you would like to request a
specific leaflet in audio format, please ask the relevant
ward or hospital department and through them we can organise this
free of charge.
If you would like to see our range of
current audio leaflets, please go to foi.avon.nhs.uk and type
audio into the search engine box situated at the top right
hand corner of the window/screen.
Braille
The Trusts Patient Information Service is able to provide
patients with Braille translation free of charge. For information
about this service, please ask at the relevant ward or
hospital department you are attending for your treatment.
Translation and
interpretation
The Trust can arrange for patient
information leaflets to be translated into a range of other
languages for patients for whom English is not their first
language. For information about this service, please ask the
relevant ward or hospital department where you are attending for
your treatment.
If you require the services of an
interpreter, the Trust has a bank of in-house
interpreters whose services we can call upon. Depending on the
circumstances, staff may also use The Big Word telephone
interpreting service as an alternative.
The Trusts Patient Information
Services are supported by the Above & Beyond Appeal.
