What we do
We are the team of paediatricians who provide care to children
requiring hospital admission for an acute medical problem.
These children are generally looked after on Caterpillar Ward (Medical Unit)
and Apollo 35 (Young People's
Ward) but may also be cared for on other wards such as Penguin Ward
and Lighthouse Ward. There are six dedicated medical high
dependency beds on Caterpillar Ward for children who require a
higher level of monitoring and treatment. Additionally we provide
medical support to the team caring for Burns patients and are
developing the service we provide to children with complex medical
needs.
We also run outpatient clinics across the city (Bristol
Children's Hospital, South Bristol, Southmead, Cossham and
Thornbury), as well as a daily Rapid Access Clinic for children who
require more urgent assessment. More information about the
outpatient department and what will happen when you come for an
appointment can be found here.
We work closely with our colleagues in General Practice,
Community Child Health, the Emergency Department, Paediatric
Intensive Care Unit and the various medical and surgical paediatric
subspecialties.
