Critical Care Follow-up - support after intensive care

When you leave hospital after being critically ill, it can take several months and sometimes more than a year to recover. Your physical, cognitive, and emotional health can all be affected. This can have an impact on being able to do the things that you need or want to do. Your stay on an intensive care unit (ICU) and ongoing recovery can also affect family and friends.

You are not alone on this journey. Our Critical Care Follow-up service is here to support you and your loved ones as you adjust to life after your stay in an ICU. We work alongside your hospital team and GP to provide additional help during your recovery.

Depending on how long you were in the ICU and the complexity of your care, you will be invited to an appointment with the team around 8 weeks after you have left hospital. If you have not been contacted but would like to talk about your time in the ICU or your recovery, please get in touch.
