If you have type 2 diabetes  there are a number of different medications available, all of which work in a variety of different ways. When you are first diagnosed you are likely to be started on oral tablets and advised to follow dietary advice and increase the amount of exercise you do, but you might need to take insulin too.

Not all treatments are suitable for everyone, so don't panic if your doctor suggests a change or stop to certain medications. Your doctor can help you find the medications that are best for your individual needs.
