Carers information scheme
The Carer Information Scheme was developed for carers who would
like to continue to support the person they care for whilst that
person is in hospital. This could be with tasks such as washing,
dressing, assisting with feeding and supporting them at night.
The Carer will have an initial conversation with the ward staff
to ensure that everyone is clear about their role whilst the
patient is in hospital. This will be recorded and kept with the
patient's notes to aid communication between different teams of
staff and the carer.
The Carer Sticker is issued daily to the carer by the ward and
will allow them to visit the person they care for outside of
visiting hours. Each day the carer is given a new sticker as this
provides an opportunity for the carer and ward staff to discuss any
issues.
Discounted parking will be offered if a carer is supporting the
patient for longer than 2 hours. The nurse in charge of the ward
should complete the Parking permit information paperwork which is
then presented to the carer.
If you would like to access the scheme, please speak with the
nurse in charge of the ward. We are aware, however, that some
carers do not wish to continue caring when the person they care for
is in hospital and some carers chose to use this time as a period
of respite. We will support carers with their choice.
