Digital Hospital

We are proud to be one of 16 UK acute trusts to become a 'digital exemplar', leading the way in using technology to benefit our patients and improve our working practices.

Running for three-and-a-half years from September 2017, there will be 20 major projects and many smaller ones all designed to bring improvements for our patients and staff.

We've rolled out the following systems:

eobs nurses

  • Vitals is our digital patient observation system, allowing nurses to record patient observations in real-time on a portable device. This means you may see our nurses and doctors using portable devices near your bed, so please don't be alarmed as they aren't being rude. Feel free to ask staff what they are recording.
  • An electronic prescribing system is available on some of our wards. This system is improving efficiency by reducing duplication and ensuring information is available to clinicians and pharmacists across the Trust as soon as medications are prescribed on the ward.
  • CareFlow Connect is a secure messaging, task allocation, alerting and handover system, enabling our doctors and nurses to share data, have discussions about a patient's care remotely and assign and track tasks, that otherwise may have relied upon phone calls and pager messages.

As we roll out these systems, you may start seeing them on wards and departments that you visit.

We're also working on other systems that in the future will allow our patients to have more convenient access to their own appointment information online

In the future patients will have the option to be able to check their own health records, feedback information about their health or perhaps have consultations via a mobile device to reduce unnecessary or untimely hospital attendances.

It's an exciting time as we progress our digital journey. This page will be updated over time with more information about the systems.
