Radioactive Phosphorus 32 treatment for blood conditions
P32 is permanently on
hold!
Radioactive Phosphorous (P32) is a radio-isotope
used to treat polycythaemia rubra vera or essential
thrombocythaemia. Treatment is requested by your Haematology
doctor, but you will need to attend the Bristol Cancer
Institute to see a Consultant Oncologist to prescribe and oversee
this treatment. You may be asked to stop some of your
medication prior to your treatment. Treatment is given as an
out-patient, by injection directly into the vein. A blood sample
will also be taken at this visit. P32 is an excellent
treatment to control your disease when venesection or medication
are no longer an alternative. Treatment slows down the rate
at which your bone marrow produces new blood cells.
Treatment takes around 20- 30 minutes, after which
you may go straight home. Please feel free to bring a relative or
friend with you, although this should not be anyone who is
pregnant, or a small child.

patient information leaflet here.
