West of England Genomic Medicine Centre (WEGMC)

University Hospitals Bristol is the lead organisation of one of 13 genomic medicine centres (GMCs) established around the country as part of the Government's 100,000 Genomes Project.

The GMCs have been set up within the NHS to help gain a better understanding of the genetic causes of cancer and rare diseases.

This ground-breaking project aims to analyse 100,000 genomes from patients with cancer and rare diseases from all over England.

We are working together with 19 other organisations in the West of England, including four NHS provider Trusts, three universities, seven clinical commissioning groups, Health Education South West, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, NHS England South West, West of England Academic Health Science Network and the West of England Clinical Research Network.
