I was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC), Seattle, WA from 2000 to 2002, and a Staff Scientist (also at FHCRC) from 2002 to 2007. I was appointed as a Lecturer in Nutrition in 2007 in the School of Oral and Dental Sciences at the University of Bristol, became a Research Fellow in Nutrition in 2012, and progressed to Senior Research Fellow in 2013. I am a member of the Lifecourse Epidemiology and Population Oral Health Research Group, and the deputy lead for the peri-treatment workstream in the Nutrition Theme of the UK NIHR funded Bristol Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). My research areas include dietary interventions at the time of hospital treatment such as chemotherapy or surgery. Examples include low iodine diets prior to radioactive iodine ablation therapy, and chewing gum after colorectal surgery. Other research interests include studies of folate and cancer risk, and immunonutrition in people undergoing surgery for head and neck cancer.
