Research involving tissue

Licence Details and Storage Locations for UH Bristol

Tissue stored and used as part of an ethically approved study does not need to be held under an HTA (Human Tissue Authority) license.

Under the terms of the Human Tissue Act, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Bristol are corporate licence holders. The Human Tissue Authority (HTA) issues licences based on postcode and each licence is supervised by a designated individual.

Within the Trust we are licenced under the HTA for 'pathology' activities and the designated individual is Dr Miranda Pring.

Our storage areas are in the two mortuaries at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) and St Michael's Hospital, and in the department of Histopathology, Level 9 at the BRI.

The University of Bristol has several individual research licences and Designated Individuals responsible for each licence and storage facility within different departments. The University operates under a Code of Practice.
