EDGE
Research at UH Bristol is on
EDGE!
Research & Innovation went live with the Trust-wide
implementation of the e-dge research management system on 1 April
2012. We have been really pleased with how the implementation has
progressed and now have nearly 700 researchers here at UH Bristol
using the system.
R&I now use the system for all applications for
sponsorship and NHS Permission and have uploaded a project record
for every research study ongoing within the Trust. Researchers
should use EDGE to keep an up-to-date record of recruitment to
their studies as well as uploading recruitment to the NIHR
Portfolio if necessary. Uploading recruitment data to the system
has now become a condition of NHS Permission for research at UH
Bristol. If you are unsure of how to do this, we have added some
useful documents to the general document store within e-dge
to guide you through the process.
As we have now moved past the implementation phase, we are
hoping the system's capabilities can start to be utilised to their
full potential and will be keeping you all notified of some handy
hints for using the system through the Trust's Twitter Feed (follow
@UHBristolNHS), tips on our email signatures and updating our
website.
Should you have any questions/queries about how e-dge will
affect you please feel free to contact the R&I team on 0117 342
0233 or email research@uhbristol.nhs.uk
R&I have developed a number of "Handy Hints" to help
researchers use the EDGE system:
- Handy Hint #1: Keep an up to date record of personal
development training and GCP which you can access anywhere by
updating the 'my qualifications' tab on EDGE
- Handy Hint #2: Use the researcher workflows at site level
for guidance on the sponsorship or approval application process
when submitting to the research management office
- Handy Hint #3: Keep an eye on recruitment to your study
by using the patient accrual reports under the 'statistics tab' of
your project record on EDGE
- Handy Hint #4: Check the site level attributes on EDGE
for the R&D project reference number and research management
facilitator allocated to your project, so that you can contact them
directly should you need to.
- Handy Hint #5: Access downloadable user guides and MS
Word versions of researcher and R&D workflows using the general
documents tab on the home page
- Handy Hint #6: Store current versions of study documents
on the files tab of the site level (red) project record so that you
can access them anywhere you need to
- Handy Hint #7: Use the staff tab on your project record
(green level) for details of research staff from other sites
working on your project
- Handy Hint #8: Use the mail system on the home screen to
send secure email to other users of EDGE
