Lipid Clinic risk charts
Risk Charts
Current guidelines for primary prevention of
cardiovascular disease advise that treatment with statins should be
considered if estimated 10 year risk of a cardiovascular event is
>20%. This may be calculated from the ˜Framingham equations on
which current risk tables are based.
These tables should not be used for patients with
clinical evidence of vascular disease, with a strong family history
of premature vascular disease, or those with a genetic
hyperlipidaemia such as familial hypercholesterolaemia. In these
cases risk tables will significantly underestimate the true risk of
a cardiovascular event.
Patient Diet Information
All patients attending the lipid clinic are given a full
dietary assessment by the clinic dietitian. Follow up advice is
offered at subsequent clinic appointments where appropriate. The
following resources provide useful advice for patients and health
