Nurse advice

Specialist nurse service

Patients with chronic inflammatory conditions are referred to the specialist nurse by our own dermatology doctors for nurse advice sessions. These typically last an hour, and provide an opportunity for education that is impossible within a normal consultant appointment. Topical treatments are discussed and demonstrated, with the aim to devise a daily routine that maximises the potential of the prescribed creams and ointments and fits with the individual's lifestyle.

Many patients attending nurse advice sessions will go on to use wrapping techniques and other itch management measures. They will be then supported by ongoing follow-up appointments with the nurse, until such a time as they feel able to take control of their skin problem. The overall aim is to provide the patient with the information and skills so that they can manage their skin condition appropriately, and so reduce the frequency and duration of flare episodes.
