Ward 38

For information for children, please visit our children's website

Ward 38 reopened in 2014 following conversion to a dedicated 16 bed neurosciences ward.

Play is a very important part of a child's life and should be no less so when they are in hospital. Our ward play specialist is able to provide play and entertainment for children either in the playroom or in their room if they are not allowed out.

The hospital has a Play Centre also staffed by trained hospital play specialists where children can go and enjoy inside and outside activities if they are well enough to leave the ward.

In the evening the Play Centre is used by Radio Lollipop a voluntary organisation that provide music relayed round the hospital and play and entertainment for patients and visiting children. On Friday evenings the hospital scout group meet in the Play Centre.

Bristol Royal Hospital for Children has its own school, which runs during normal term time. This provides education for children who are regular patients for those whose stay is more than a few days if they are well enough. The children are taken off the ward to the schoolroom or if this is not possible then a teacher will visit the child on the ward.
