Ward profile

Ward 36 is a 18 bedded paediatric surgical ward dealing with short stay and day case surgery encompassing ENT, urology, orthopaedic and general surgery as well as some dental surgery work. We also care for children undergoing medical and radiological investigations.

For information for children, please visit our children's website

Ward philosophy

Our philosophy of care reflects our commitment to the family centred care of the child. Care is provided in partnership with the child and his/her carers acknowledging the fact that each child is an individual. We aim to prepare the child for admission ensuring they are able to make informed decisions about their care.

Nursing team

The nursing team is led by Jodie Banner, ward manager. The environment is busy and dynamic and offers the staff chance to be part of a supportive and developing team.

Staff mostly work a three shift system as follows:

  • Early shift: 07:15 - 15:15
  • Late shift: 12:30 - 20:30
  • Night shift: 20:15 - 07:15

Professional development

The nursing team consists of knowledgeable and experienced nurses who are enthusiastic and motivated in their work. Staff are encouraged to keep up to date and recognise their own development needs.

There are many opportunities for our staff to continue learning and for ongoing professional development through courses and study days. The Trust provides a wide range of learning and development opportunities and staff are actively encouraged to take advantage of these.

We have close links with the University of the West of England and the Trust has a dedicated purpose built Education Centre where staff can gain access to state of the art technology and resources for learning.
