11The Radiotherapy Physics Unit provides highly specialised physics support for the radiotherapy department at Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre (BHOC). Radiotherapy uses beams of high energy x-rays to treat unhealthy cells (usually cancerous tumours) in the human body. The department currently consists of six linear accelerators (linacs), a high dose rate brachytherapy unit, two digital treatment simulators and a dedicated CT scanner. Clinical scientists and clinical technologists in Radiotherapy Physics work closely with oncologists, radiographers and engineers to deliver safe, accurate and effective radiotherapy treatment to individual patients.
